Microsoft quietly shuts down MMORPG Mythica

Though spawming online fan sites prior to launch, Microsoft’s MMORPG game Mythica will never see the light of day. According to the Mythica website, and Adam Waalkes, studio manager of Microsoft Game Studios:

“Our goal with ‘Mythica’ was to create a truly innovative massively multiplayer online role playing game. While the game looked ready to deliver advancements to the genre, after careful evaluation of the MMORPG landscape, MGS has decided to stream-line its portfolio, making fewer investments in this genre. After a rigorous review of current and future projects, the decision was made that Mythica would not be one of the projects we would continue to invest in.”

Thus Mythica, itself, will enter the realm of game mythology.

Justin Frankel departs Winamp, officially

Yes, its true. Everyone knew it was coming, but now its official. Justin has resigned from the Winamp team, now that Winamp 5 (a rehash of 2-3) is alive and well and freely distributed. Kudos to this friendly coder for creating a little app that, at one time, got the whole music industry hot and bothered, even though all Winamp ever did “wrong” was play compressed audio files as cleanly, and simply, as possible.
